Hello and Happy Friday to you!
Back in January I shared a new song with you called “A Song is Always on My Mind” (here’s a link to that post). Since then we’ve rehearsed it, recorded it, and now we have a great new mix by Travis Harrison—it’s definitely going to be one of the songs featured on our new album (coming later this year), and I can’t wait for you to hear it. I think what I like about it is that it is a song about songs. I’ve done this before. For example, on our 2020 record, Pack Up Your Shadows, I wrote a song called “Whiskey Song”, which is a song about writing a song about whiskey. There is a great tradition of songs about songs and I think my favorite is the first song on the second album by Elton John—”Your Song” (1970). It’s also a song about writing a song, a love song. I love the line: “I know it’s not much but it’s the best I can do.” I can relate to that! It’s really good and I don’t tire of it. It’s one of the songs I actually learned how to play correctly on the piano, and I play it quite often believe it or not. I sat down tonight and made up an arrangement on my acoustic guitar and made this little recording especially for you. Last thought…if I ever write an autobiography or a memoir (not gonna happen btw) I’m going to call it A Song is Always on My Mind.
