Hello and happy Friday to you.
This week I’m sharing a song that I wrote Tuesday morning. It was kind of a relief to be done with all the shows (10 in 12 days!) revolving around St. Patrick’s Day. It was fun but I miss our focus on original music, so this song just poured out. I had the basic melody and chorus and a bunch of verses done within a couple of hours on Tuesday. And then while skiing in Vermont on Wednesday day I revised some of the verses and recorded this demo, singing into my phone on Wednesday night. I took on a narrative voice that I go to sometimes—sort of a guy who is down and out but trying to make up for past mistakes. I also was inspired by the phrase “at the end of the day”. Usually when we start a sentence with “at the end of the day” we reveal what is ultimately most important in our life. I think this guy has realized what is important but it might be too late. I don’t really know why I came up with this song…but I really enjoy singing it. Lyrics below.
Thanks for reading and listening to my song. I just updated our online show schedule on our web site…we’re going to Memphis!!! Full schedule here. More on that soon. Enjoy yourself this weekend.

P.S.
We recently contributed a track to POP AID 2 - A Pop Compilation to Benefit Those Affected by Hurricanes Helene & Milton. I wrote about the song, “Out of the Rain”, on Substack awhile back. We decided to keep it off of Enemy Sublime in order to save it as a single or for some future project. When the Kool Kat label contacted us about the benefit project it just seemed like the perfect song to offer up. Plus we have friends and family who have been affected by these storms. Please consider buying the cd or downloading the track to help raise money for this cause.
Already Down to the End By Mick Chorba ©2025 Dinner Time Music ASCAP The shadows are long My intentions unclear My head is as cloudy As a bottle of beer And I still don’t know What I’m doing here If only to see you again There is no clumsier Man that I know I can’t hold on And I can’t let go I’m doing the best That I can though I know It never seems like I am We’re already down to the end of the day We’re already down to the end We’re already down to the end of the day We’re already down to the end You knew much more Than you ever let on I walked around With my head in a song How could I know You were putting me on When nothing was said If there was a garden A place in the trees Far from the worries Of this world I believe That we could sleep In our dreams you and me We could still be friends We’re already down to the end of the day We’re already down to the end Already down to the end of the day Already down to the end Over the river And south onto Main The sun has gone down Now it’s started to rain And I don’t remember What I was going to say It just fell right out of my head Already down to the end of the day We’re already down to the end Already down to the end of the day Already down to the end
