Streaming Live This Morning
Good morning. Sending this one out a little early to give you ample time to tune in. This morning I’ll be performing live on the “Breakfast With JB Kline” show at The Starving Artist Cafe in Stockton, NJ. Doors at 9:00. JB opens the live stream at 10:00 and I should be on by 10:30. Follow this link to join us live - https://www.facebook.com/jbklineson. I do realize that some of my readers here may actually have jobs and important things to do on a Friday morning. No worries; I’m pretty sure the performance will stay up on the Facebook page for you to view at your leisure but be cool if you could join us live.
J.B. Kline is a local NJ legend—been in the music business for 40 years. He also owns and operates the JB Kline New & Vintage Musical Instruments Music Store in Lambertville, NJ. I bought a Silvertone guitar from him a few years back that was a source of inspiration for the songs that appear on our 2023 Wrong Together album.
The Starving Artist Cafe in Stockton, NJ (a NJ river town 3 miles north of Lambertville) is the brainchild of chef and musician Todd Ellis. Todd is well known for his work in the 80s power pop band Smart Remarks who opened for The Replacements, The Ramones, REM and many others. Their song “All Your Reasons Why” appeared in Season 3 of the Stranger Things series. In 2024 I recorded an EP with Todd at my home studio and The Successful Failures acted as his backing band. It’s a great collection of songs. Check it out here. As the owner of Starving Artist Cafe, Todd provides a friendly space for musicians, poets, and artists to congregate and feast on his amazing food.
For my performance I jotted down a bunch of songs that I might play including: “Shooting Craps With Uncle Richie”, “How People Start Sentences”, “Uncle Jimmy”, “Costume Party”, “Long Black Veil”, “Mike Malloy”, “This Girl”, “Milwaukee”, and “It Is The Rain”.
If you you tune in live feel free to make a request. I probably won’t play it but who knows. Sorry in advance.
Thanks for reading. - Mick

What I’m listening to:
Big Bill Broonzy - This guy fits in best with the “Songsters” but he can do it all, blues, folk, old-timey stuff. I spent a lot of time this morning trying to learn his song “Hey Hey Baby” which he recorded in the 1950s. I love the way he plays guitar. Check him out.
What I’m reading:.
Finished Unsheltered, by Barbara Kingsolver.
Started Blaze by Richard Bachman (Stephen King’s pseudonym) written in 1973, published in 2007.

Big Bill Broonzy is a fine one. Check out the two blues cover records Dave & Phil Alvin put out, with some BBB tunes on them. And a good recovery to Rob!
