I’m offering up a song this week that is so new that I don’t have a title (options are in my post heading and subheading). This song is so new that it doesn’t even have a chorus. I sang into my phone for this recording and went with a stream of consciousness revolving around the rhythm and rhyme of a line I wrote in my notebook several months ago: “drop like a warehouse on a farm”. When these little ditties come my way I try to grab them and turn off my filter…they may come to nothing or maybe a section will turn into another song. It’s rare for a a song to plop out of the ether all finished up nice and neat. I wish it happened more often!
Have a listen when you get a chance today!
Here are the lyrics:
Plenty of things can still go wrong Drop like a warehouse on a farm The rope is tight that binds my arms Plenty of lights we could turn down Too many fights in this feisty town My boots have all hit the ground I turn around to face the faceless and I stare them down I stare them down The coffee is spilling down the side Of my cup, it crossed my mind You always laugh before you cry I wonder why You laugh before you cry I wonder why I wonder why Plenty of things can still go right We pass like shadows in the night Me to the left you to the right I will not fight with you That's how I fight with you I will not fight with you That's how I fight with you I will not fight with you That's how I fight with you For every day of the week There is a word for which I seek I am a man who drags his feet I will repeat myself At the risk of sounding meek I will repeat myself I will repeat myself I will repeat myself I will repeat myself I will repeat myself
The band has been rehearsing and recording material for a new album. It’s been great to just focus on creating (I’ve also taken a break from posting on social media and that’s been a relief as well…what a chore!). When we get back to playing shows in March hopefully we remember all the other songs we used to know! Here’s a picture of the white board in the studio with the new songs we’ve been making. Can’t wait for you to hear them (definitely will be a new album in 2024 which gets us back to our one album a year pace which I prefer if possible).
One exception to the “no show” agenda…next Friday 2/16/24 we are playing a set at Randy Now’s Man Cave store in Hightstown, NJ. Old Heights Brewery is releasing a special edition beer named after Randy and we are going to play a party at the record store (right next to the brewery) celebrating the release. Looks like Tod the Mod will be joining us too, super fun. So if you live in the area come out to Randy Now’s Man Cave next Friday from 5:00 - 8:00. More info on Randy Now’s Facebook page. Thanks for reading and have a great weekend! - Mick
I like the image of coffee spilling down the side of a cup. Meanwhile, stay off social media indefinitely I say--and is that a Beach Boys cover tune top left of the board? Right on.
